Strong winds over Lake Victoria basin may result in boat accidents and drowning – fishing boats, canoes and small passenger vessels may capsize in rough waves. Loss of fishing equipment – nets, boats, cages and other equipment can be damaged or swept away. Damage to buildings – roofs, windows, temporary structures and poorly constructed houses may be damaged by strong winds. Falling trees and branches – may injure people or block roads. Flying debris – iron sheets and other loose materials can become dangerous projectiles. Disruption of lake transport – ferry and small-boat services may be delayed or suspended.
